Charles Lecler wins the FORMULA 1 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2022 to bolster his and Ferrari's championship leads. A capacity crowd packed out Albert Park, Melbourne as it hosted the first Australian Grand Prix for more than 3 years. The Monegasque driver had to fight hard in the early stages of the race to keep his rival, Verstappen at bay through two Safety Cars. When his Dutch rival retired on lap 34, the result never looked in doubt for Leclerc, who picked up maximum points with a convincing drive. Leclerc was superb throughout the weekend, picking up a grand slam (win/pole/fastest lap/led every lap), the first Ferrari driver since 2010 to do so.
