In October 2018, HWA Racelab was named as one of ten teams that would make up the grid for the inaugural season of the FIA Formula 3 Championship. The team named Artem Markelov as their first driver, and he was joined by Giuliano Alesi, son of former Formula One driver Jean Alesi, who left Trident at the end of the 2019 season.
