The fresh design of McLaren's 2020 model, the MCL35, paid immediate dividends for Norris, who sped to his first career podium finish in the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix. The team carried over very few elements from the MCL34. Lando told his engineers that he hoped to have improved cornering ability in the MCL35. A new floor, diffuser and brake ducts were implemented in that pursuit.
